Chelsea scores five gold

Medal haul in championships

After eight days of racing in the 2017 Australian Canoe Marathon Championships in Sydney, I finished with five gold, three silver and one bronze medals.

Having competed in various distances, I also finished with a fourth, fifth and sixth position. I competed in 10 events in the U16s, which required me to do heats, semi-finals and, finally, finals for each race.

I then finished the week with two 1500m marathon races — one in the K2 with my doubles partner and the other in the K1. The K1 didn't exactly go to plan when I got accidently knocked out of my boat, moving me from second (in the lead pack) to seventh place, but I slowly made my way back up to second.

With my results in the Sprints I'm hoping that I have made the U15 Olympic Hopeful Squad — I might hear more on this soon.

Across the eight days I found that I raced well, made new friends and, all in all, learnt things that I need to work on to prepare myself for next year’s national championships.
